Ryan Carrier, a seasoned master electrician with over 15 years of experience, decided to take the leap and start his own business: Carrier Electric, Inc. As the owner, founder, and CEO, Ryan had big dreams. He wanted to create a company that was more than just another service provider. With his passion for his craft, his care for his customers, and his strong values, Ryan was ready to build a brand that could truly stand out in a crowded market. His mission was simple but powerful: to deliver the best possible outcomes for his customers while being a fair, supportive employer who treated his team with respect.

At the start, Ryan had the expertise and the vision, but he was missing something essential: a logo and a visual identity to bring his brand to life. His business was in its infancy, and aside from word-of-mouth referrals, he had no way to differentiate himself from competitors. His only “marketing” asset at the time was his personal vehicle, which he used to run jobs. This is where I came in, to help bring his brand to the next level and give it the identity it deserved.

RYAN'S CHALLENGE

Ryan needed a logo—and he needed it fast. He was eager to get his business up and running, promote it, and start making money as soon as possible. As a father of three, with a wife to support, the pressure was on. He knew that a strong visual identity could make all the difference in attracting new customers and establishing his business.

As we discussed his goals, Ryan shared his core beliefs: he wanted a logo that communicated his dedication to high-quality service and his pride in being a tradesman. More importantly, he wanted it to reflect his values—his respect for hard work, his love of freedom and independence, and his deep appreciation for veterans. I was excited to help him craft a brand that would capture all of that in a visual form.

The Process

To get started, I took the time to listen carefully to Ryan. I learned what mattered most to him—why he started his business, what he stood for, and what message he wanted his brand to communicate. This was about understanding who Ryan was and what his business represented.

The logo needed to represent Ryan’s craft, capture his pride in offering a service that stands apart from the typical “money-first” approach he felt many other electricians took. He shared how important his sense of freedom was as a small business owner and his gratitude for his veteran father’s service. These themes had to shine through in the design.

The logo

The final logo we created told Ryan’s story in three meaningful parts. First, we included an electrical bolt—symbolizing Ryan’s trade—done in a simple, sleek black, avoiding the overused yellow that’s often associated with the industry. This minimalistic approach reflected Ryan’s no-nonsense approach to service.

Second, we incorporated the stars and stripes of the American flag. This wasn’t a generic “flag” design but rather a thoughtful, respectful tribute to Ryan’s love for freedom and his gratitude for veterans. The flag elements weren’t overdone—they were incorporated subtly and in a way that felt authentic to Ryan’s story.

Lastly, everything was encapsulated in the letter “C”—for Carrier, of course. Ryan is incredibly proud of his last name and the legacy he’s building, so it was important to integrate this element. This simple but strong shape tied the logo together and gave it a personal, lasting feel. In addition to the logo, I also created a business card for Ryan and even helped him brainstorm ideas for a vehicle wrap, which would help his brand stand out wherever he went.

The impact

The impact of this logo design was huge for Ryan and his business. Not only did it give his company a professional, polished look, but it also made an immediate difference in how customers viewed Carrier Electric. Ryan often tells me that people recognize the logo without even needing to read the company name—it's become synonymous with trust and quality. That’s the power of a well-crafted visual identity.

Since the logo’s creation, Ryan’s business has grown significantly. He started as a one-man operation, running jobs from his personal vehicle. Today, Carrier Electric, Inc. has expanded to offer both residential and commercial electrical services, along with HVAC services and generator installations. Ryan now has multiple employees, a fleet of trucks, and a much stronger presence in the market. His brand—led by the logo—has played a key role in this success. It’s helped Ryan not only stand out in a crowded industry but also communicate his values clearly to his customers.

Testimonial

I had the design for my company in my head for 20 years.

I didn't know when or how I would start my company but I knew that this would be my logo. I remember drawing it on my lunchbox as a 2nd year apprentice on a grueling jobsite in the middle of winter just knowing somehow, some way that I would make it real.

It wasn't until Shawn sent the file with my logo that it all came to life...all the years of work, all the doubt from friends and family telling me it would be too hard, when my wife teared up when I put my notice in to the most successful and profitable career I had ever known, and when I walked out of the house that same morning and gave my kids hugs and kisses knowing that I was putting it all on the line, it all came to life when I looked at that logo.

It was all I needed. Needless to say the logo was and is a success for the branding of my company. It looks great on every piece of clothing and vehicle it goes on. I have had so many complements and the recognition of our vans really stands out to people. Shawn’s process is so involved and thoughtful when doing his intake, where I could really see my ideas come to life, to the final handoff...he is definitely a master of his craft.
